Digital TV and IRS System Upgrades
If you currently have a single wire system and your residents can only receive basic Sky services you
can arrange an upgrade from single wire to two wire giving the resident the option of having Sky Plus
or Sky Plus HD equipment.
Making an IRS System Sky+ HD compatible
Many digital TV system upgrades occurred some years ago when Sky+ functionality was not available or
as popular as it is today and systems were designed to provide Sky functionality only.
It is often very costly for residents to upgrade just their own dwelling via the existing head-end.
The effect of this being either residents who are unhappy because they can’t receive all of the benefits
of Sky+ or residents who put up their own mini-dish to provide them with the extra feed they need to
receive full Sky+ functionality.
There are a number of solutions that
can offer on a block by block basis to provide this functionality now to the residents who want it and
to future proof any given block to residents who may want Sky+ type services. The best solution will
be block specific, but our experienced Technical Consultants will be able to advise accordingly.
Incorporating Foreign Satellites onto existing IRS systems
Residents within communal buildings are often based around relatively short term leases creating a constantly
changing block population. Where there are large proportions of residents who require access to non-English
language programming, the solution is often for the resident to erect their own large individual dishes
that do provide access to the required programming.
we have developed a number of options that allows a landlord to upgrade their existing communal system
to provide access to the additional foreign channels that may be requested by the block resident population.
Again, these solutions are block specific, but they will enable residents to remove their own mini-dishes
and will improve the overall inclusivity of the TV offering within the block.
Originally Integrated Reception Systems (IRS) were installed with only a single cable to each dwelling. There are many thousands of examples of this in both private and social housing.
An advance in Sky’s technologies (Sky +) has meant that recording and viewing two channels simultaneously has become standard.
Sky made this possible by equipping their boxes with two tuners – one to view and one to record. However to facilitate this two independent cables are required – one to feed each tuner.
The most common complaint we receive from residents is that they are paying for a service via Sky that includes Sky + but are not able to use the facility due to only having a single cable system.
Many rogue satellite dishes on blocks (that contain IRS systems) are due to a resident requiring Sky + facility and having a dish is installed to provide the additional feed for recording.
Until Single Cable Router (SCR), the only way to upgrade was to install a second cable. In some circumstances the rewiring of the building is either impossible or impractical.
Single Cable Router (SCR) technology has been developed to allow a single cable to be used and in the event of an upgrade the existing satellite switches or TV network are replaced for SCR switches.
Because the switch is multi-standard it can be retrospectively fitted into existing systems without the need to enter the dwellings. (Multi Standard – can operate in legacy or SCR mode)
Sky+ SCR enablement can then be carried out at a later date as and when required by each individual resident, thereby not affecting residents who do not wish to take Sky + services at that this time.
Residents will also be able to have Sky Multiroom; the SCR can support a third satellite tuner meaning that now from one cable a resident can connect a Sky + HD box and a single input Sky Multiroom box all from one cable once the system is enable with SCR.
